So I’ve discovered something new and it goes by the name of ViPR. This weekend saw me out at Broadwood for a day of training to use ViPR in my personal workout or teach it within a group.
I booked this course after visiting YouTube and seeing a couple of interesting videos in relation to what you can actually do with it.
You watch the videos, look at the hand grips and think, yeah ok what makes this different? What can this bit of kit do for me, do for others? Well with the different weights varying from 4kg to 20kg (at time of writing) and over 9500 exercises really there is something from everyone.
FitPro offer a training day open to anyone. If you’re a participant you could come away thinking about how you can include this in your work out. As an instructor or personal trainer you can expand on the information given and pass this knowledge on giving your clients a workout they deserve.
ViPR
“ViPR™ was created from a need to evolve training tools, foster purposeful motion and blend strength training with functional training and movement. Movement is fundamental. And what makes up effective movement is a blend of lifting, shifting and twisting.” *
Michol Dalcourt, creator of ViPR * taken from http://www.viprfit.com/
Vitality, Performance, Re-conditioning, the 3 fundamentals for ViPR providing the concept of whole-body integration. I don’t want to re-invent the wheel so for more information regarding the background on ViPR check out :

Training day
The course was presented by Garry Anderson (Les Mills Trainer and Presenter: BODYPUMP™). Going through the foundations of ViPR, where it came from, what it’s about, what makes it different from other systems. After talking about the various weights, sizes, grips, correct usage, stations were sorted, challenges were set and we went through exercises covering the 3 fundamentals.
Garry kept an eagle eye on us making sure we done the stations in a safe manor, ensuring we were coaching our partner correctly. Garry kept re-iterating to think out of the box, what if you did this, what if you done that. Motivating us to think freedom, change grip, change direction, add in a jump, a lunge.
Everyone started at one point during the day to experiment. I started thinking along the lines of Body Combat so I introduced a ginga, a lunge within the box pattern, can open, worms out. Lots of variations, lots to work with. It’s quite hard to describe the possibilities of the ViPR without trying it. It can be used indoors, outdoors, in water, and having the ability to add more and more to a basic exercise can result in an unforgettable workout.
Garry at the end of the day took us through to the gym to go over how he integrates ViPR into his daily work out. He showed us how to use equipment found in the gym along side the ViPR like a step, changing the levels, introducing harder exercises. As always it comes down to your own needs or you clients needs. Limitless…….
Conclusion
Wheels are in motion to purchase a couple of units so that I can bring the ViPR into my daily workout. I am hoping that after a while I am able to introduce the ViPR to small groups may it be in circuits, bootcamps, boxercise type classes, or it’s own dedicated class.
Realistically it comes down to fun, safe, result driven exercises which I believe the ViPR can easily cope with. If you demand more it can without a doubt accommodate. What you waiting for get yourself to a gym or book on a course today. Thank you FitPro and thank you Garry for a great day.
