Les Mills BodyCombat 69 , BodyCombat 70 and several other releases are now in the mix. BodyCombat 72 track listing is out. How has BodyCombat 71 gone down?
Les Mills BodyCombat 71 “instructors” video
Filmed in the usual studio back in Auckland New Zealand. 4 instructors on stage, some bad angles (better than previous release), scripted towards “home use” with Les Mills on demand/virtual.
Every release I get more annoyed having to pay for a virtual/on-demand video that really is rarely watched once and then punted on to a backup somewhere. Les Mills you get your money from on demand/virtual stop pushing these costs onto instructors. Just glad I can actually watch it past the lower body warm-up, remember BodyCombat 70?
Les Mills BodyCombat 71 Quarterly Workshop
I really hope the day comes whereby the whole “touch point” system goes away. I can only be optimistic, but lets face it, I have more chances of winning the lottery :(.
Very nice venue offering space for alot of instructors. Yeah, well, they don’t make them like Tanya, Shey and Gio anymore :S. Was very obvious most of the instructors didn’t really want to be there :(. Thankfully every cloud, caught up with alot of other instructors which topped off the afternoon :).
BodyCombat 71 tracks
Track 1a – Upper body warmup – Give Me Your Love ft. John Newman, Nile Rodgers – Sigala
What a fantastic upbeat tune to start the track on :). Simple choreography allowing plenty of time for technique and coaching before we start putting more power and speed into our movement. The 1, 1-2 is a really nice addition as well as the travelling to the side. Can even hook into some of the lyrics :). This has to be one of the best transitions of songs between 1a and 1b… #moreplease
Track 1b – Lower body warmup – Hype – Dizzee Rascal & Calvin Harris
This song has been stuck in my head for about 4-5 weeks before launching as it’s been blaring out one of our RPM studios. Very driving song. Choreography reminds me of Call Me Maybe from BodyCombat 55. 3 knee’s step step, throw in a front kick in the middle, you’re on your way to warming up.
I like the consistency of the step step as we ad on the side kick which is then toned back into roundhouse setup and repeater. Thumbs up 🙂 When kicking please remember to self check your foot position on the kicks :).
Track 1c – Integrated warmup – Perfect Strangers ft. JP Cooper – Jonas Blue
BodyCombat 70 1c had mixed views from participants but in the end enjoyed it. This release however has gone down like a lead balloon. This was the first track asked to be mixed out, even after 6 weeks of doing it, thoughts didn’t change.
Based on this lets hope warm-up tracks get split so it’s easier to mix out tracks that won’t see light of day again.
Track 2 – Combat 1 – Baddest Things (feat. Bunji Garlin) – Party Favor & Nymz
Wasn’t sure about the music to start with but the choreography gives it that “dirty boxing” feel. Upper, upper hook and 1 knee, 1 kick + driving music = Work hard. Like the break downs across the various martial arts. Another track 2 that will be back in the future.
Track 3 – Power training 1 – Work It Out feat. Digital Farm Animals – Netsky
This is a TUNE. Too simple? 3 rounds consisting of hooks, uppercuts, and power jabs. Very easy to hook into the lyrics “we can work it out”, “don’t you walk away”. Uplifting, fun and will be used in future mixes.
Track 4 – Combat 2 – Titans – Razihel & Aero Chord
This track is the absolute dogs b0ll0x. This track has to be the gold, silver and bronze track of this release. Starting off, the calm before the storm with the triple lunges before moving to the lunge, front kick lunge. You think it’s over but then comes the storm where you jump into the lunge. Awesome track :).
Track 5 – Power training 2 – Feel The Love ft. John Newman – Rudimental
The track that saw a last minute alternative added to the release. Burpees Modified sprawls, pushups, plank. Remember when track 5’s use to be fun? Blowing out your back end but the track got boring very quickly.
Track 6 – Combat 3 – Secrets – Tiësto & KSHMR feat. Vassy
After track 4 you should feel your glutes working hard in this track. Simple yet challenging track. Has everything in it and has a feel like a classic. Will keep this on the mix list :).
Track 7 – Muay Thai – Ocho Cinco – Dj Snake & Yellow Claw
Simple choreography of elbows and knees. Our 3rd cardio peak of the workout with lots of room to work on the various levels but feel it’s ruined by choice of music. I can’t see this making a future mixing list but you never know when a small gap in a mix needs filled.
Track 8 – Power training 3 – Come Alive – Netsky
6 minutes with a cool start . Love the Xylophone sounds. Anyone else think “the parry” doesn’t belong in this track? Carrying on from the warm up with the Jab,jab, cross combination. “Driving, limitless and perseverant” nails this track. Added traveling combo pushes this track up a level before finishing with a tone of jabs.
Track 9 – Conditioning – Time – Snavs
“Integrate and alternate upper and lower ab exercises to train the core effectively”. I like this conditioning track as i think the crunch with the jabs brings authenticity. Thumbs up 🙂
Track 10 – Cool down – Unstoppable – Sia
I really like the tune and the beat that comes with it. Really focusing on the lower body. Will be going on the future mix list 🙂
Overall thoughts on BodyCombat 71
Release was very easy to learn and a couple of tracks that will return in the future. The choreography has been positively received but the music is still attracting negative comments. I think the persona/banter of the instructor will easily make or break this release.
What Next?
BodyCombat 72 track listing is out. What will BodyCombat 72 bring?
Lot of new moves from BodyCombat 50 through to BodyCombat 60 and they’ve been one hit wonders. Will we see these moves again any time soon I am hope so as movements like “the parry” are boring…..
