Where I am at
Over the course of the following months I am hoping to commit a little more time to my blog covering the following topics : technology, programming, photography, gaming, fitness and life in general. With this in mind I am making positive steps to make my site faster and more accessible. Did you notice the http to https change? Seems some social counters take a while to update with this change, Facebook come on….
I was hoping that this theme would last longer than the previous one but we’re here again. This comes down to speed and accessibility. As I write this post my website currently runs a WordPress theme call Keilir by Bluthemes. The theme itself seems to be unsupported and hasn’t been updated in about a year which unfortunately has left the theme itself around 90% complete. Every post in support regarding the theme seems to a dead-end.
I try to keep my site running as fast and clean as possible (this is why I use Krystal Hosting) but over a period some updates have hindered this as I have had to turn off several options within the W3Cache plugin as the theme breaks. This was reported over 10 months ago and still no updates. By the looks of the support channel focus is all on “new themes”. Did you notice the “search” option had to go as it doesn’t work? Initially when buying the theme, support was fantastic and this is where I don’t understand why they don’t take some time out for an update that would “bullet proof” the theme. That 10% isn’t hard to achieve. But if you check Bluthemes website out they’re very busy creating new nice looking themes but unfortunately I won’t be parting with my money.
Onwards and Upwards
Over the next couple of weeks I will be moving over to a new theme from Theme Forest that nearly has everything I want out the box. The plan is to create a child theme and do some customisations of my own (of which I have already started).
This update will not only make the site faster, more responsive but will allow freedom for the things I want to do with my site without having to write a theme from start.
Why are you posting this?
The site will probably have some downtime or things might looked messed up for a small period of time. If you are a frequent visitor to the site and you notice something isn’t right please just do a hard refresh on your browser as this will usually fix it (means am probably working on it).

Great stuff Simon. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
I could do with a face lift on my own blog. I’m leaning towards a very minimalistic approach where the typeface is king, but finding a good theme to use as the parent is proving harder than I thought.
Good luck!

Hi Dan,
The theme I have gone for is a little minimalistic :). Is called Piemont. Seems there will be a little more work than I thought with widgets, post types, fonts and performance. Let the fun begin lol.
